With the weather being extremely cold during the winter and many of us still working from home, the possibility of a malfunctioning boiler is not one we want to experience.
Here at Atom Gas Ltd, we have compiled a list of helpful hints to ensure that you are prepared and don't wake up to a broken boiler during the months you need it the most.
Signs which indicate my boiler needs repairing:
- Boiler pressure keeps dropping or rising
- There is no hot water or heating
- You can hear unusual sounds coming from your boiler
- The flame inside your boiler is not blue
Boiler pressure keeps dropping or raising
If you have noticed the pressure on your boiler increasing too much or dropping down more than it should, it could mean your boiler is experiencing issues that need to be looked into by a heating engineer before it stops working. The normal boiler pressure should be between 1-2 bars, anything above or lower needs to be checked.
There is no hot water or heating
This type of boiler issue is difficult to overlook.
If your boiler isn't operating at all or if you have hot water and no heating or vice versa it doesn't always imply there's a major issue. In some circumstances, a simple phone call to a reputable heating company can help solve the problem.
You can hear unusual sounds coming from your boiler
It is good practice to get a professional heating engineer to examine any strange noises coming from your boiler. Whether it's clunking, banging or whistling sounds, they could cause potential issues, so make sure you get your boiler repaired.
The flame inside your boiler is not blue
It is very important to check whether the pilot flame is blue, if they appear to be yellow or orange, you need to contact a Gas Safe registered engineer as soon as possible!
