Why Is My Boiler Losing Pressure?

Boilers are fortunate in that they never lose their keys, wallets, bottles, or minds. They do, however, lose pressure, which has a significant impact on their performance. As a result, your home's heating and hot water systems.

So, what can you do if your boiler pressure is low? More crucially, what can you do about a boiler that continues losing pressure?

Why Is My Boiler Losing Pressure

What is boiler pressure and why do you need it?

The balance of water and air within your boiler's sealed system is known as boiler pressure.

Your boiler requires a specific balance of water and air to function properly, ensuring that the pressure in the system is appropriate for when water is requested from the boiler - essentially when you turn on your heating or hot water.

Inadequate flow of water to heat your radiators or water will arise from insufficient pressure (not enough water within the sealed system).

If your boiler has been giving low-pressure readings on a frequent basis, is over 10 years old, and has seen better days, you should consider replacing it.

Why is my boiler losing pressure?

#1 - A leak in the system

A leak in your heating system can be difficult to detect. The leak could be anywhere in your home's piping, potentially affecting a huge region. It might be a leaky pipe behind the wall or beneath the floorboard.

Leaks in your system, especially those that are tougher to reach, should be left to the professionals. If necessary, a Gas Safe engineer will need to reseal or even re-pipe your system. For your piece of mind, all of our professionals at Atom Gas in Kent (including Whitstable, Canterbury, and Ramsgate) are Gas Safe registered.

#2 - A leak in the boiler

The most typical cause of leaks is from your system, but components within the boiler leaking – usually owing to age and corrosion – is not far behind.

#3 Faulty part in the boiler

How to spot a faulty boiler part:

We rely on the problem codes displayed on the boiler's monitor and call a certified Gas Safe Registered heating engineer to handle the situation.

How to repair a broken boiler part:

Your heating engineer will need to remove and repair the faulty component of your boiler in the majority of cases. The cost will vary based on the age of your boiler, the availability of new components, and the nature of the broken item. A heat exchanger for a boiler, for example, will set you back a hefty sum.

Boiler Pressure

Is low boiler pressure dangerous?

Low boiler pressure is rarely a cause for concern, but if you have any doubts, you should always seek the advice of a registered Gas Safe Engineer.

Low boiler pressure typically indicates that water cannot be circulated throughout your system or provided to your faucets and showers. As a result, the boiler will often turn off and show an error code to notify you that there is a problem causing low pressure.

Any boiler, even the most 'popular' brands, can experience pressure loss.
